| Needing healthcare in a foreign country, when you can't
speak the language, can be a daunting situation.
Here is some information to help you find your bearings medically in Poland.
There are two possibilities for treatment - within the state-run system
or going privately.
As well as offering private medical services Medicina has contracts with
the NFZ state health insurance fund, so regardless of your choice or situation
you can get the treatment you need.
The state health system
Resident in Poland
If you are resident in Poland you should be covered by universal health
insurance that is mandatory for all those employed or self-employed and
extends to their spouses and kids as well as to pensioners, people registered
as unemployed, refugees, etc. Employers pay monthly premiums on behalf
of their workforces. The state finances the health insurance of residents
entitled to free medical services. Others may join the system voluntarily.
This gives you full , free access to the state healthcare system,
Just visiting - from the EU
Foreign visitors from the European Union enjoy the same benefits as Poland's
residents covered by the country's universal health insurance when they
can present either the E111 form issued in their respective countries
or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a replacement certificate.
Non-EU visitors are expected to pay for health care and medical procedures
as well as dental treatment. You will find more information at the NFZ
website.
None of the above ?
Private Healthcare
If you are not covered by the Polish or EU health system you can still
get treatment privately. Private healthcare is well developed and readily
available, especially in cities and larger towns and practically everybody
(not just foreigners) uses private clinics as the insurance-covered ones
involve notoriously long waiting lists. Private travel health insurance
is usually not respected - you will invariably have to pay first and be
reimbursed by your insurer when you return home. Medicina accepts major
credit cards (Visa, Mastercard/Eurocard, Diners Club, JCB and Polcard)
when paying at our clinics.
